Summary

: CREEK TECHNOLOGIES is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join our team as a full time, on-site Senior Technical Writer in support of the Air Force Research Laboratory located at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The experienced Technical Writer responsibilities include reviewing the work of the scientists/engineers, creating material in the form of news articles, leadership statements, letters, and video scripts as well as, designing templates. Ultimately, a top-notch technical writer has excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and page composition skills. To be successful in this role, you need to understand public relations practices and be able to convey any kind of message to the media and our target audience. Superb written communication skills, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, or Journalism, are a must. As our Technical Writer, you also need excellent research skills to acquire the necessary knowledge about our industry and the preferred style and messaging.

Responsibilities

• Writing target-audience-oriented media and press release materials • Adapting language, style, and tone to the target audience • Researching the business and industry to get a better understanding of DAF/AFRL • Communicating with scientists / engineers to acquire information that will help you write convincing releases about their projects • Create/Review official AFRL/RX news releases • Monitoring the publication of written articles to ensure the whole process is error-free • Developing and maintaining a productive working relationship with AFRL PA • Maintaining a relevant and updated media mailing list of previous publishers • Participating in meetings that track communications-centric activities • Working with researchers and developers to ensure document accuracy. • Review technical documents for clarity, grammar, spelling, punctuation, content, and style. • Give feedback to tech writers and make any necessary corrections to technical documents. • Ensuring that all written content meets AFRL/RX and Creek Tech standards. • Develop, communicate, and adhere to goals for content, workflow, and aim of writing. • Creating templates for technical writers that are easy to apply and adapt. • Conducting quality assurance on all printed documents, including brochures, advertisements, newsletters, posters, marketing materials, etc. • Conforming to strict editing guidelines and security clearance protocols. • Solicit story ideas by contacting AFRL/RX research teams • Interview AFRL/RX scientists and contractors for story material • Use technical knowledge or the ability to conduct appropriate research to translate specialized material into text that can be understood by the general public • Research, write, and design success stories for publication in annual report • Write scripts (on-demand) for ceremonies, videos, and leadership engagements • Extract information from award nominations to craft citations • Provide support for on-site tours, as required, including planning, agenda design, conducting dry runs and tour execution, and escorting tour groups • On request, review and edit material from other offices for possible publication • Ensure application of AP style and publication style guidelines specified by the AFRL/RX brand to all written products • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment • Reviews products with supervisor and makes changes as necessary • Submit Quarterly Activity Report

Qualifications

• Superb written and verbal communication skills • Mastery of the AP style • Knowledge of the best Public Relations practices • Proven experience as a technical writer and in working with a variety of style guides. • Experience with desktop publishing, multimedia production, and documentation software. • Excellent computer and word processing skills. • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and page composition skills • Proficient in technical writing/editing with experience in preparing story articles • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Google Suite products • Ability to engage with executive level leadership across functions and organizations • Demonstrated ability to convey technical information in non-technical language • Multi-tasker with ability to track and complete several projects at the same time • Self-motivated, able to take simple direction and expand upon idea/suggestion • Strong attention to detail.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or Communications

Experience

• 5 years of experience working as a Press Release Writer or Journalist preferred • Experience working with a PR/Public Affairs Agency is a plus • Experience in graphic design, videography and photography preferred but not required

Clearance

Secret Clearance preferred; at minimum must obtain/maintain DoD Secret clearance required

Salary Range

$70,000-$75,000
